Transferring Made Easy!

Transferring to a senior institution shouldn’t be stressful. The key to an easy transition: advanced planning. Don’t know how to get started? It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

1. An important first step is developing a relationship with the transfer admissions counselor at the schools in which you intend to apply. It is the counselor’s job to guide you through the admissions process and make your transfer experience as smooth as possible. Doing this ensures that you will be well aware of scholarship and financial aid deadlines, and how many credit hours will transfer to the senior institution. You will also have an advocate that you are comfortable calling and asking questions.

2. It is important to begin inquiring about crucial scholarship and financial aid deadlines as early as the first semester at your community college. Each senior institution has different deadlines and eligibility requirements. It is imperative that you not wait until the month before you are ready to transfer to call about scholarship information. Two resources at your fingertips: the online eScholarship Directory and ScholarshipTrak, both of which can be found on Phi Theta Kappa’s website, www.ptk.org.

3. Make sure you are taking classes that will transfer to your senior institution of choice. Many senior institutions now have matriculation guidelines, which identify the community college classes they will accept.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning your future today.
