Although you always want to consider new angles in fundraising, never underestimate the power of food. Since food is a daily necessity, you are not pushing unwanted or unneeded items - no sales skills needed! Consider food sales as an opportunity to showcase your chapter's other projects. Use part of the bakesale table or labels on the candy bars as space to promote the Honors Study Topic, the America Reads Challenge Service Program, membership drives, upcoming orientations/induction ceremonies, or to advertise future fundraisers. Watch out for fundraisers that involve taking orders for products which the customers pay for later. Profits are often lost in the failure to collect. Instead of competing with other organizations on campus, try combining efforts and splitting the profits. This will give you a larger pool of volunteers, can provide opportunities for larger projects, and may, in turn, bring bigger results! If not allowed to compete with campus food service, remember that food can be sold at local sports, charity, or community events, at local grocery and department stores, and to friends and relatives. College Cookbook Collect recipes from your faculty and administration and publish them for sale. Sidewalk Cafe Combine food with fun by offering musical entertainment to go along with the menu. Global Cookoff Taste from potluck dishes from all over the world. Concessions Rent a cotton candy or popcorn machine. Nite Bites Provide food on-the-go for evening students. Pizza Shop Buy large pizzas and sell them by the slice. Coffee Shop Sell flavored coffees with teacakes. Sandwich Sale Set up your operation like a Subway shop. Morning Buzz Plan for early morning coffee and donuts. Advertise Offer to distribute discount coupons for a local restaurant for a percent or fixed return for each coupon presented. Also, consider offering advertising at your events for local businesses or other campus clubs. Payment is according to the size of the ad. Trendy Consider environment-friendly foods or those containing herbal ingredients. Holiday Fare The possibilities are endless...raffle a turkey at Thanksgiving, bake cakes for Christmas, try heart-shaped cookies for Valentine's Day, and candy for Easter. People are often the most receptive to food sales at holiday time. Other Money-Making Ventures For Your Chapter: Luxury Ask local hotels and restaurants to donate weekend getaways and/or dinners for raffle prizes. Change Those pennies count. Set up penny collection jars in classes and offices. It is best to empty the jars on a daily basis. VIPS (Very Important Parking Space) Raffle off the college president's (or other administrator's) parking space. With their permission, of course! Clean House Offer a cleaning service for houses, dorm rooms, or cars. Blow It Up! Tired of bake sales? Try a balloon sale!
