Tips for a Successful Regional College Fair!

Hosting a College Fair at your regional meeting is an outstanding benefit to members as well as four-year colleges in your area that are eager to recruit top community college transfer students! To make sure your College Fair is a success for both groups, consider these important factors:

  1. One person should be in charge of the College Fair from start to finish. It is important for schools to have someone knowledgeable and accountable to call with questions as well as someone present throughout the College Fair to handle any problems that develop.
  2. Make sure your room is large enough to accommodate all schools comfortably with ample space between each table and plenty of room for students to browse.
  3. Students should not have to choose between the college fair and another activity. Your college fair should be a planned event that all students, and preferably advisors, can attend without conflict.
  4. If more than 10 colleges are attending, consider assigning tables in alphabetical order. This makes it easier for students to find colleges to which they are interested in transferring and gives the appearance of a more organized college fair.
  5. Remember that one of the benefits of being a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Partner is to attend Phi Theta Kappa College Fairs on a regional and international level. It is important NOT to charge an exhibitor's fee for colleges attending your Regional College Fair.
  6. Most importantly, show your appreciation! Make sure at least one person personally thanks each college fair representative for attending. Following up with a thank-you note also leaves a good impression and is sure to draw them back next year!
