Top 10 Ways to Make Your Regional Meeting Good as Gold!
Here are 10 ideas to take your meeting from ordinary to extraordinary!
Smile and Say Cheese.
Provide a large banner or sign for the meeting that can be used as a backdrop for
chapter photos.
Color Your World.
Provide a festive atmosphere with balloons, streamers and other party decorations.
Remember, Phi Theta Kappa's official colors are blue and gold.
Please Make Welcome…
Have a regional officer or host chapter officer introduce speakers by saying more
than just "Here's John Smith." Most speakers have brief bios they can provide that
will give the audience more information on their credentials.
Brag About It.
Sponsor an "Idea Fair" by asking chapters to bring a handout explaining their
chapter's most successful endeavor. Focus success stories on a Phi Theta Kappa
program (Honors Study Topic,
International Service Program, Project Graduation,
etc.)
Gather Around.
Consider having roundtable discussions for chapter officers to gain wisdom on
fulfilling their responsibilities. For example, you could set aside special tables
and facilitators for chapter presidents, vice presidents of each Hallmark
(Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship), chapter fundraisers, chapter
webmasters, etc.
Spice It Up.
For smaller meetings, consider a twist for your chapter roll call by having chapters
tell about one of their unique projects in addition to telling how many members and
advisors are in attendance.
Find Money for College.
Connect students with scholarship opportunities by hosting a College Fair. We
encourage you to invite the Society's Scholarship Partners, senior
institutions that offer exclusive Phi Theta Kappa transfer scholarships, to attend
the College Fairs you sponsor with no exhibitor's fee.
Make a Difference.
Give back to your host city by sponsoring a convention service project. By relating
it to the International Service Program,
chapters can perform a community service while fulfilling one of their Five Star Program requirements.
Stay Awake.
Help participants avoid after-lunch doldrums by incorporating physical exercise into
the day. Consider a midday walk, a mini-session on tai chi or yoga stretching to
keep participants wide awake and energized for the meeting!
Get Fired Up!
Show highlights from a previous International Convention available on the Chapter Resources DVD to get participants
excited about representing their region at the Seattle Convention, April 20-22, 2006!
