The Iowa Region Goes To Camp
On Sunday, June 12, 2005
more than eighty advisors, members, friends, spouses, and family members
from the Iowa Region of Phi Theta Kappa met at the Boone Campus of Des Moines
Area Community College for a day of volunteerism and fellowship. The Heart
Connection Children's Summer Oncology Camp, held at the Boone County Y
Camp, provided a forum for children to talk about their feelings. For the
child who has been diagnosed with cancer it is the chance to talk to someone
that has just completed treatment and to understand that there is hope for
them also.
The group spent the day assisting with many activities
including: unloading cars, carrying luggage, registration, selling
camp shirts, directing children and parents to their cabins, participating
in carnival events, setting up games, giving hugs to parents, holding hands
with children, clean- up, and sharing moments with special people from
all around the Midwest! "It was a GREAT day," said Iowa Regional Coordinator
Nancy Woods.
Congratulations to the Iowa Region for sponsoring
a superb Regional Project!
