The New York Regional Officers have adopted "Bottles of Hope" as
one of their Regional Service Projects. "Our goal is to decorate and deliver
at least 500 bottles to cancer patients so they can write a wish on a piece
of paper and put it in the bottle. This is different from a fund raising event;
this is a morale raising event," said Mary Kaye Sickles, Program Secretary.
Fifty-five bottles were delivered to the Oncology Department at Our Lady
of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York.
A cancer survivor
who is again battling breast cancer for the second time, said "receiving
a Bottle of Hope was an absolutely adorable gift! It is wonderful that those
who made these Bottles of Hope took the time to make them - please thank them
all for their kindness."
Visit the Bottles
of Hope website for more information on this unique service project.
The
Greater Northwest Heavyweight Face-off will be held during the region's
Leadership Conference in November. At a combined weight of over 600 pounds,
two regional officers will weigh in to promote prevention through healthy
living as they participate in a fitness/weight loss challenge. Using a
Pop Culture TV theme, after the official weigh-in, pictures and updates
will be posted to the Greater
NW Region Website.
The project encompasses each of the Hallmarks,
the Honors Study Topic and the International Service Program.
