Coca Cola's All-State Community College Academic Team
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has announced the establishment of the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team program, providing up to $450,000 in stipends. The top scoring student from each of the fifty states will be named a New Century Scholar and will receive a $2,000 stipend. New Century Scholars will be presented at the AACC Convention. Fifty students will be named Gold Scholars, receiving $1,500, fifty students will be named Silver Scholars, receiving $1,250, and fifty students will be named Bronze Scholars, receiving $1,000. A state may have multiple Gold, Silver, or Bronze Scholars. All scholars will also receive special medallions and will be listed in an April issue of the USA TODAY newspaper. Finally, an additional 150 national finalists will be selected from multiple states, each receiving a $1,000 stipend. The Coca-Cola All-State program and USA Today's All-USA program use a common application, eligibility, and selection criteria. Thus, each of the college's two nominees submit only one application to be considered for both programs.
All-State Academic Team Recognition Ceremonies
Phi Theta Kappa, two-year college presidents, and community college state associations co-sponsor All-State Academic Team ceremonies in 38 participating states. Students nominated to the national All-USA/All-State Academic Teams are automatically named to the All-State Academic Teams and are eligible for stipends provided by Coca-Cola. Ranking on the All-State teams is generally determined by the student's score in the national competition. All-State Academic Team recognition ceremonies are most often held in the state capital with legislators, education leaders, and corporate leaders attending. All-State Team members receive special recognition at these ceremonies including medallions and certificates and may include stipends and scholarships.
