Preparing Math and Science Teachers at Jackson Community College

If Dr. Seuss were here today, he would have certainly added a chapter to his book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go.” He would have traveled to Jackson, Michigan and enjoyed the experiences and stories that have developed since Phi Theta Kappa selected Jackson Community College’s new teacher education program as one of eighteen colleges to further develop math and science teachers. His chapter might have gone something like this;

Congratulations, today is your day, believe it or not,
After reviewing applications, yours came to the top.
JCC was selected to develop a plan,
To help future teachers be best in the land.

JCC, you are on your own, with a plan in place,
Spring Arbor University as partner to help keep the pace.
Your mentors, Deb and Roger, are most proud of you;
They have traveled from afar to see what you can do.

You will look up and down and all around,
But with work and brains, the change will be found.
Yes, things can happen, they will, they can,
And when it starts to happen, don’t fret or stew,
keep working hard, it will happen to you.

When the paper work is in, and the travels complete,
One will look at the plan and say, wow! What a feat!
Future teachers are learning, staffs are trying new styles,
And teachers in schools are all filled with big smiles.

Elementary students also are pleased,
Math and science are fun with future T’s.
The work has been worth it; the experience great,
The travels, the friends, the progress first rate!
