Preparing Tomorrow's Science and Math Teachers

Summer 2003
Issue

College of the Marshall Islands

...team members devoted the period of this Phi Theta Kappa project to initiating a range of activities with the goal of expanding science and math requirements for education majors. Despite obstacles of distance and limited funding support, the team created an independent math department, evaluated math course prerequisites and teacher education curriculum needs, and revised the teacher education requirements for future teachers. Mentors Carla Goble, Tulsa Community College, and Deborah Norris, Oklahoma State University, provided helpful sample materials and assistance throughout the project period.
