West Williamson Memorial
With a heavy heart I share that long-time staff member (but, oh so young) West Williamson passed away on Tuesday, June 25. All we know at this point is that he died in his sleep.
West began work with Phi Theta Kappa 23 years ago as a part-time staff member in Canton, while attending Holmes Community College where he earned membership in Phi Theta Kappa. West transferred to Delta State University on a Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, graduated, and returned to work with Phi Theta Kappa full time. He has served in many key leadership roles with our staff – information technology, membership services, chapter programs, on and on. Phi Theta Kappa is the only organization with which West has worked during his all too brief professional career.
Phi Theta Kappa has lost a dedicated soul. He loved the organization, worked tirelessly for it. We have lost a brave, kind, and compassionate young man and now commit his leadership to our history.
West's family has announced that Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, from 5 – 7 pm at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton (3304 S. Liberty Street) and Friday from 10 - 11am at First United Methodist Church of Canton (3301 S. Liberty Street). Canton is located 20 miles north of Jackson, MS. The funeral service will begin at 11am Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Canton and burial will follow at the Canton Cemetery. His family has suggested memorials may be sent to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, 1625 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211, or give to the West Williamson Memorial Fund online.
So that West's family might be consoled by knowing the far reaching impact of West's work in touching lives of advisors, members, and alumni throughout Phi Theta Kappa, we are hopeful that all will take a moment to share their recollection of West's impact on their lives and commit to writing a note to be delivered to his family. We plan to bundle the notes and present them to his family in the days ahead. Notes may be addressed: West Williamson Family, ℅ Phi Theta Kappa, Center for Excellence, Jackson, MS 39211.
With a heavy heart,
Rod A. Risley, Ph.D.
