Welcome Social and Book Signing
On Monday, June 18, all participants are invited to a Welcome Social from 9:30 pm – 10:30 pm in the Connelly Center. Come get to know your fellow Institute participants from across the country and around the world. Plus, purchase a copy of Seth Stephens-Davidowitz’s book Everybody Lies and join him for a book signing.
Tuesday, June 19
Learn more about college transfer opportunities available to you as a Phi Theta Kappa member on Tuesday, June 19, 12:15 pm – 2:30 pm at TBD. Network with representatives from four-year colleges and universities on-hand to answer your transfer questions.
Regional Coordinator and Advisor Reception
All Regional Coordinators, Associate Regional Coordinators, and chapter advisors are invited to a reception on Tuesday, June 19, from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm in Connelly Center, Belle Air Terrace.
Thursday, June 21
The Blank Session
The 2018 Blank Session is the Place as Text visit to Historic Philadelphia. The Blank session is organized in honor of Professor Robert Blank. Prior to his retirement, Blank was a history professor and Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor at the State University of New York in Farmingdale and was New England/Middle States Regional Coordinator. Blank is a past chair of the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors and served for many years as Honors Institute Coordinator. Professor Blank was instrumental in the development of the role of seminar groups. He now makes his home in Vermont.
Place as Text: Historic Philadelphia
Thursday afternoon’s Place as Text program, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, will afford Honors Institute participants to visit sites in Historic Philadelphia. All student seminar group participants will visit Independence Hall, and chapter advisors will explore the Museum of the American Revolution. All participants will visit the Liberty Bell.
On Thursday, June 21, all participants are invited to a Farewell Social from 9:30 pm – 10:30 pm in the Connelly Center. It’s an opportunity to bid farewell to Phi Theta Kappa friends old and new.
Friday, June 22
The Wyatt Session
The 2018 Wyatt Session is the Explore More! Day. The session pays tribute to Gayle Wyatt, a former member of the Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters staff, who played a key role in the creation and development of the Honors Study Topic and the Honors Institute. Wyatt is a former college teacher and served as Academic Dean at Navarro College. He resides in Texas.
Explore More! Day
On Friday’s Explore More! Day, participants will have the opportunity to explore the historical and cultural attractions in and around the greater Philadelphia area. Participants are responsible for all fees, including transportation, admissions, lunch, and dinner, on Explore More! Day.
