When Catalina realized that none of her college credits from Argentina would transfer to her new college in the U.S., she was daunted at the reality of starting over in a new place in her non-native language. Terrified, she signed up for her first class, English composition, a class that she came to love and that gave her confidence to continue her nursing education. Catalina spent 12 years working as a gardener, but she knew she wanted to explore something new. Her work as a doula and the birth of her first daughter made her realized that she wanted to become a nurse and support women in childbirth.
