Kristi’s interest in nursing was sparked when her family friend asked if she could sit with her mother, Patricia, during the day since she was ill. Kristi would sit with her, do puzzles, and make breakfast and lunch, but as the disease progressed so did Patricia’s needs and Kristi’s care. When Patricia was eventually moved to a long-term care facility, Kristi decided to pursue her nursing assistant certification, and she got a job as a CNA on an Alzheimer’s unit at a care facility where she was able to care for other patients like Patricia.
