A Closer Look at the Spring Common Scholarship Application

Phi Theta Kappa’s Spring Common Scholarship Application is now open. If you will be continuing your education at a two-year college in the fall, then these scholarships are tailor-made for you!

More than $260,000 will be awarded through scholarships on the Spring Common Scholarship Application. The deadline to apply is April 30.

“Applying early is key to a successful scholarship application,” said Heather Johnson, Phi Theta Kappa’s Director of Scholarship Programs. “As you might expect, the applications we receive are high-quality, and the process is competitive. But, you’ll never receive a scholarship if you never apply for one.”

Below is an in-depth look at the scholarships offered on the Spring Common Scholarship Application. You may apply for any or all of the scholarships for which you qualify. Learn even more and apply today on the Scholarships webpage.

Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship recognizes the outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments of students who are enrolled in regionally accredited community college programs in registered nursing, respiratory care or emergency medical services. Applicants must have completed 50 percent of their course work leading to the attainment of an associate degree by June in the year they apply for the scholarship.

Twenty scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded. The scholarship is open to non-Phi Theta Kappa members. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

Please note that this is the final year that the Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarship will be awarded.

Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship – This scholarship program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in a two-year college in order to develop leadership potential through participation in Society programs.

Up to 200 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Twenty-five of these scholarships are specifically earmarked for students who are military veterans or who are currently active members of the military.

Additionally, seven Global Leaders of Promise Scholars will be named. These scholars will consist of international students, temporary residents, Phi Theta Kappa members outside of the United States, or others who have citizenship statuses that do not allow them to apply for federal financial aid. Applicants must be Phi Theta Kappa members, and a minimum 3.5 GPA is required.

GEICO Pathway to Completion Associate Scholarship – Students who apply for the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarships and have outstanding leadership activities will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students who have served as chapter, regional or international officers or who have held a leadership position in another college club or community organization. Students must be enrolled in an associate degree program at a two-year college for the fall term immediately following their application in the spring.

Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Applicants must be Phi Theta Kappa members, and a minimum 3.5 GPA is required.

Richard L. Resurreccion Public Safety Scholarship – This scholarship recognizes Phi Theta Kappa members who demonstrate potential for or involvement in public safety or service while enrolled in a regionally accredited associate degree public safety program. The International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute (IPSLEI) shall make the scholarship selection.

Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Applicants must be Phi Theta Kappa members, and a minimum 3.5 GPA is required.

This scholarship is open to Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Fire Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Public Safety Administration, Emergency Management and Homeland Security associate degree majors.
