Jackson, Mississippi – Wilmington College in Ohio has partnered with Sodexo, Follett Higher Education and Phi Theta Kappa in the creation of the Dreams over Disaster Scholarship, a full-ride transfer scholarship opportunity exclusively for Phi Theta Kappa members. This scholarship assists students impacted by natural disasters by providing two cost-of-attendance scholarships, including tuition, room and board, fees and a textbook stipend. Two Phi Theta Kappa members will be awarded this scholarship in 2016 to attend Wilmington College.
To apply, Phi Theta Kappa members must live or have lived in a zip code included in an area recognized as a FEMA national disaster area during the last calendar year, be eligible for individual assistance and provide proof of FEMA documentation. To apply, members can download the Dreams over Disaster Scholarship Application. The deadline to submit applications is April 15, 2016, at 5 p.m. Central Time.
“The Dreams over Disaster Scholarship will make educational dreams a reality and make a positive difference in the lives of two recipients selected to receive this scholarship,” said Dennis Kelly, Chief Enrollment Officer at Wilmington College.
Kelly hopes that Wilmington College’s scholarship opportunity will be replicated throughout higher education at other colleges and universities, noting that there are thousands of students impacted adversely by natural disasters that deserve the chance to dream beyond the disaster that has adversely impacted their lives.
“This is a one-of-a-kind scholarship opportunity that we are thrilled to present to our members,” said Christin Grissom, Director of Scholarship Operations at Phi Theta Kappa. “Scholarships of this nature have the capacity to broaden horizons for our members and lessen the financial hardships associated with pursuing higher education in the aftermath of being impacted by a natural disaster.”
Recipients will receive funding support for four consecutive semesters to attend Wilmington College. This scholarship is renewable, and recipients will be provided with community service or work-study or work grant opportunities at Wilmington College.
