Jackson, Mississippi –Two Phi Theta Kappa members from the University of Hawaii Maui College and River Valley Community College in New Hampshire have each received $1,000 scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa and GEICO.
These scholarships are presented to Phi Theta Kappa members who have held significant leadership positions on campus or in their communities, with preference given to those who have held chapter, regional or international office. Phi Theta Kappa provides more than 1,100 applicants worldwide in excess of $230,000 in scholarships to complete associate level studies each fall.
GEICO Scholar Heather Kotok, a sustainable science management major, serves as president of her local Phi Theta Kappa chapter, treasurer of the Maui Veterans Club and as an Upward Bound volunteer.
Fellow GEICO Scholar Colleen Ross is a dual major, STEM and liberal arts with a concentration in math and science. She has earned a 4.0 grade point average; she serves as a student senato and as an officer in her Phi Theta Kappa chapter; and created a STEM awareness program for youth in her community.
The GEICO Pathway to Completion Associate Degree Scholarships are presented by GEICO to Phi Theta Kappa members pursuing associate degrees. A sponsor of Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention, GEICO has given more than $2 million to support scholarships and programs for Phi Theta Kappa members. GEICO also provides additional scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members for the completion of baccalaureate and master’s degrees and for the professional development of chapter advisors.
