Jackson, Mississippi — Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has named Dr. Johnny Moore, president of Pierpont Community & Technical College in West Virginia, to its Presidential Advisory Board.
He joins 38 other college presidents from across the nation on the board and will provide input into the organization’s strategic plan, priorities, and direction.
Advisory Board members advocate for Phi Theta Kappa, its members, and its mission; serve as liaisons between PTK headquarters and the college leaders in their states; and advise the Society’s CEO and other senior leaders.
Moore became the third president of Pierpont Community & Technical College in 2016. A first-generation college student, he attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, on a basketball scholarship. He received his Master of Science in mathematics from Arkansas State University and a Ph.D. from the Florida Institute of Technology.
After accepting a teaching position at Indian River State College in Florida, Moore quickly rose through the ranks to tenured professor, mathematics department chairman, and vice president of student affairs. While at Indian River, he established a student leadership institute boasting All-USA Academic Team members and two Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship award recipients.
Moore later served as executive vice president for student affairs at Tyler Junior College in Texas and as president of his alma mater (Philander Smith). Prior to accepting the position at Pierpont, he was the interim vice president for student and outreach services at Northeast Texas Community College.
