Sawtelle Joins PTK Presidential Advisory Board

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) has named Jimmy Sawtelle, chancellor of Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC), to its Presidential Advisory Board.

He joins 43 other college presidents from across the nation on the board and will provide input into the organization’s strategic plan, priorities, and direction. Advisory Board members advocate for Phi Theta Kappa, its members, and its mission; serve as liaisons between PTK headquarters and the college leaders in their states; and advise the Society’s President and CEO and other senior leaders.

Phi Theta Kappa goes beyond recognition to serve as a pathway to student success and completion by providing scholarships and opportunities to its members for individual growth and development — work that would not be possible without the support of college presidents like Sawtelle. The Presidential Advisory Board was established in 2015.

Sawtelle had served as acting chancellor of CLTCC for several months before officially becoming chancellor in 2015. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president for workforce solutions for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS).

Sawtelle has 28 years of higher education experience. He has served as a classroom instructor, an electronic learning director, a campus dean, and the acting lead at five colleges within LCTCS. He previously served as College Director of CLTCC from 2011-2012.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nicholls State University and a master’s degree from McNeese State University, and he is pursuing a doctoral degree from Northwestern State University.
