Albertus Magnus College Announces New PTK Scholarship

Albertus Magnus College

If pursuing your advanced liberal arts degree in an environment that feels like a close-knit family makes your heart sing, then Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, could be the transfer institution of your dreams. The college is now making it easier to turn those dreams into reality by offering exclusive transfer opportunities for members like you.  Even better, their PTK scholarship is stackable with other scholarships offered by the college!

Here’s a closer look at what Albertus Magnus College offers PTK transfer students like you.

Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for members of Phi Theta Kappa.
The Pillar Award is awarded to full-time students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa and who were admitted to Albertus Magnus College after Fall 2019. The award is up to $1,000 per year and is renewable as long as the student is meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?
Albertus Magnus College welcomes transfer students into both its traditional undergraduate program (for traditional age students) and its evening and online accelerated degree program (for adult students returning to school). We accept many community college students into our programs, and we especially want to recognize those that have gone above and beyond in their studies and academic performance. The goal of this award is to help offset the cost of tuition (especially combined with other scholarships and/or discounts our transfer students may be eligible to receive).

Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?
Transfer students are defined as having completed more than 15 credits at another institution. A transfer student entering our traditional undergraduate program may be eligible for a transfer scholarship ranging from $6,500 to $16,500. The transfer scholarship may be stacked with the Pillar Award (for Phi Theta Kappa members).

What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?
Albertus Magnus College provides a Transfer Student Orientation to all transfer students entering either our traditional undergraduate program or our evening and online accelerated degree program. All transfer students are also paired with a transfer student advisor who will help them understand their transfer credits and design an individual plan to complete their degree. (The goal is to help bachelor’s students graduate with 120 credits without having to repeat or take additional coursework beyond the 120 credits.) Finally, transfer students in the traditional undergraduate program are entered into a 1-credit ePortfolio course to help introduce them to important resources on campus (i.e. the academic success center, the library, the office of career and professional development, student services, the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Student Government Association (SGA), and other services.)

In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?
Albertus Magnus College prepares students for careers, but just as importantly, for life. The four Dominican pillars of Study, Prayer, Community and Service are incorporated into our liberal arts, values-based education. Students are immediately welcomed into the Falcon Family and our close-knit environment allows students to know their professors on a personal level. Experiential learning is paramount to the success of Albertus students. In fact, a recent Destination Survey showed that 96% of Albertus graduates were either employed or pursuing an advanced degree six months after graduation; the national average was 81%.

Are there any special events or deadlines on your recruitment calendar that you would like to share?
Albertus Magnus College has a rolling admissions process but encourages interested students to apply early in the year to be considered for maximum financial award packages. Students can apply for traditional undergraduate admission by visiting https://www.albertus.edu/undergraduate-degrees/apply-for-admission/index.php.

Open Houses for the traditional undergraduate program are hosted in November, but you can also meet our Falcon Family and visit our beautiful campus by scheduling a visit here: https://www.albertus.edu/undergraduate-degrees/visit-us/.

Finally, adults wanting to return to school by taking evening or online classes in our accelerated degree program are encouraged to fill out an inquiry form here: https://www.albertus.edu/professional. In the accelerated degree program, classes begin five times per year, and students can choose to finish up their coursework on a full-time or part-time basis. This program is designed to be flexible for students with families and/or juggling full-time employment.
