Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) has published academic research conducted by students at 15 colleges in the ninth edition of Civic Scholar: Journal of Undergraduate Community College Research.

The full journal is available here.

Civic Scholar features 15 exceptional undergraduate research projects created and carried out by PTK student members. The research projects involve a wide range of topics, including “Two Nations, One Land: the Divergent Paths of the Cherokee and American Frontiersmen” and “Hidden in Plain Sight: Trafficking in Small-Town Nebraska.” The published works were chosen from among hundreds of submissions from colleges within PTK’s global community.

“Students learn more deeply when they have the opportunity to explore a question and put what they learn into action,” said PTK President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “The Honors in Action projects featured in this journal show students conducting thoughtful research, working together, and addressing issues that matter to their campuses and communities. I’m proud to share their work.”

Research was conducted as part of Phi Theta Kappa’s honors study topic, The Power of Stories. The works published in Civic Scholar include both substantive research and community engagement—students ultimately turned their research into action by using their findings to meet specific community needs.

“There’s something powerful about watching students follow research wherever it leads and discover what they’re capable of along the way,” said Dr. Samantha Levy, Chief Student Engagement Officer. “The work in this journal is thoughtful, ambitious, and driven by genuine curiosity. That’s the kind of experience we want more students to have in PTK.”
