Tala Alahmar, former 2021-2022 International President, has been appointed to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Board of Directors as the Alumni Representative.

In addition to having served on the 2021-2022 international officer team as International President, Alahmar was the president of her college’s PTK chapter and of the PTK Michigan region, and she previously sat on the board as the Student Representative. As an alum, Alahmar remained active in Phi Theta Kappa and continues to dedicate herself to its mission.

Alahmar has also continued advocating for community colleges and their students, appearing on the Association of Community College Trustees podcast, and being featured in ACCT’s Trustee Quarterly.

“We are pleased to welcome Tala to the Board, and we value the insight she will provide as we continue to deepen the value of Phi Theta Kappa membership across the nation and beyond,” said Dr. George Boggs, Chair of the PTK Board of Directors and President and CEO Emeritus of the American Association of Community Colleges.

Since graduating from community college, Alahmar completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, and she is currently a graduate student at Georgetown University where she is pursuing her master’s in democracy and governance as a Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholar. Alahmar is also an intern for the United States Department of Defense.

“I am honored to join the Board of Directors as the Alumni Representative,” Alahmar said. “Phi Theta Kappa was a life-changing experience for me as a student, and I am excited about serving the organization as the Alumni Representative.”
