Phi Theta Kappa Recognizes Four Outstanding Boards of Trustees

October 7, 2020

Four college Boards of Trustees have received the 2020 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Board of Trustees Award in recognition of the leadership and professional development opportunities they provide for their students, faculty, and staff.

The awards were presented during the Association of Community College Trustees’ (ACCT) annual Leadership Congress, held virtually October 5-8. Only four Boards nationwide were selected for this award.

The 2020 Board of Trustees Award recipients are the 2019-2020 Boards from Fulton-Montgomery Community College in New York; Austin Community College District in Texas; Pearl River Community College in Mississippi; and MiraCosta College in California.

All of these Boards provide funding for students, faculty, and staff to attend personal and professional development conferences. They are active in campus activities and service projects, they invite students to present on initiatives, and they let students serve as Board members so there’s a student voice in college decisions.

“An engaged and student-focused Board of Trustees is vital to the student success efforts of the entire institution,” PTK President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said. “We commend these Boards of Trustees for their high commitment to the education and service initiatives shown to increase student completion and employment outcomes.”
