PTK Appoints Phillips to Presidential Advisory Board

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) has named Dr. Dianna G. Phillips, president of Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland, to its Presidential Advisory Board.

Phillips joins 38 other college presidents from across the nation on the board and will provide input into the organization’s strategic plan, priorities, and direction. Advisory Board members advocate for Phi Theta Kappa, its members, and its mission; serve as liaisons between PTK headquarters and the college leaders in their states; and advise the Society’s Executive Director and other senior leaders. The Presidential Advisory Board was established in 2015.

Phi Theta Kappa goes beyond recognition to serve as a pathway to student success and completion by providing scholarships and opportunities to its members for individual growth and development — work that would not be possible without the support of college presidents like Phillips.

Phillips became the ninth president of Harford Community College in 2016. She previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of the District of Columbia Community College and has also held senior positions at Brookdale Community College in New Jersey and Monroe Community College in New York.

Phillips began her career in higher education as the Base Coordinator for Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s workforce development program at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. She has more than 20 years of experience as an academic leader and is a staunch advocate for community colleges.

Phillips holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a master’s degree in student personnel administration from Buffalo State College. She graduated from National University in San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and she also earned an AGS degree from Chaminade University in Hawaii while serving as a communications specialist in the United States Navy.
