Antonia Adams Receives $1,000 Calhoun Scholarship

Antonia Adams, a business major at Piedmont Technical College in South Carolina, has been named the 2020 Christopher A. Calhoun Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

While attending Piedmont Technical College, Adams has worked to create leadership lessons and collaborated with the different clubs on her college campus in her role as president of the Inter-Club Council. She is a member of the Student Support Services Advisory Council and is a Presidential Ambassador, representing her college at various events where she can educate current and future students on the mission of the college.

With her passion lying in economics, Adams voluntarily provides tutoring to online students enrolled in economics classes. Following her graduation from Piedmont, she plans to pursue a baccalaureate degree in economics at the University of South Carolina, ultimately desiring to teach at the collegiate level.

The Calhoun Scholarship is awarded annually to a South Carolina student with a high-ranking score in the All-USA Academic Team Competition. The All-USA program is widely recognized as the most prestigious academic honor for students seeking an associate degree and recognizes students who extend their college education to better themselves, their schools, and their surrounding communities.

“We are very thankful for donors such as Christopher Calhoun who understand the importance of what recognition can do in a student’s life,” said Dr. Monica Marlowe, Executive Director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation. “Mr. Calhoun is paying forward the opportunity he received after being recognized for his achievement as a Phi Theta Kappa member. We congratulate Antonia for her academic accomplishments and wish her the best as she completes her education.”
