POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director of Student Engagement provides strategic leadership for Phi Theta Kappa’s member, chapter, and regional engagement within an assigned division. This role advances initiatives that promote student access, connection, and success across the membership journey – from pre-membership through alumni involvement. Through collaboration with the Chief Engagement Officer and cross-functional teams, this position ensures that chapters and regions are equipped to deliver meaningful, high-quality, and data-driven engagement opportunities that align with the Society’s strategic goals.

  • Advance the strategic goals of Phi Theta Kappa by supporting engagement at every level: individual, divisional, and Society-wide.
  • Partner with the Engagement Team to identify opportunities and implement strategies that strengthen member, advisor, chapter, and regional engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engagement Officer to align division operations with broader organizational needs related to travel, communications, marketing, and technology.
  • Implement data-informed decisions to develop tactical and strategic efforts that expand membership and deepen participation across the division.
  • Provide consistent leadership and guidance for divisional consultant to ensure advisors receive consistent, effective support.
  • Cultivate a strong working partnership with divisional consultant, offering mentorship, encouragement, and constructive guidance to foster growth, consistency, and shared purpose.
  • Serve as a responsible steward of department finances, ensuring thoughtful budgeting, efficient use of resources, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of engagement initiatives that deliver a high-quality, student-centered membership experience.
  • Strengthen chapters by equipping advisors and student leaders with tools and trainings to promote Phi Theta Kappa’s mission and recruit new members.
  • Lead efforts to connect with prospective members and strengthen pathways from eligibility to active engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engagement Officer and cross-functional teams to design and deliver impactful programming for advisors, regional coordinators, and members.
  • Work with regional leaders to ensure regional events are well-supported, relevant, and responsive to the needs of members and advisors.
  • Continuously assess and refine programs to ensure they reflect the diverse experiences, goals, and learning pathways of community college students (to include dual enrollment, workforce, general education, transfer, and technical programs).
  • Foster an environment where all students have equitable opportunities to engage, lead, and succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a college, nonprofit, or student engagement setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful engagement or learning experiences for students across a variety of educational pathways.
  • Proven ability to leverage virtual and online platforms for program delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse stakeholders and fostering positive relationships.
  • Professional written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and oversee financial expenditures.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Deep knowledge of and appreciation for Phi Theta Kappa’s mission, programs, and culture.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position operates in a professional office environment and remotely, with moderate noise levels.

Requirements include:

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Close, midrange, and distance vision; color identification; and depth perception
  • Clear verbal and auditory communication
  • Frequent use of hands and arms; occasional walking, bending, or kneeling

Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.
