Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for members of Phi Theta Kappa.

Newberry College is proud to support Phi Theta Kappa members through two scholarship opportunities designed specifically for transfer students. PTK members may qualify for our PTK Excellence Scholarship, a $2,000 annual award that can be combined with transfer merit scholarships. Additionally, select students may be eligible for our PTK Distinguished Scholars Award, valued at up to $20,000 annually. These scholarships recognize the academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to service that PTK members demonstrate throughout their community college experience.

Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?

Phi Theta Kappa students have already proven their dedication to academic success and personal growth. At Newberry College, we believe these students bring valuable leadership, engagement, and persistence to our campus community. Offering scholarship opportunities allows us to recognize their accomplishments while helping make a private college education more affordable and accessible as they complete their bachelor’s degree.

Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award? If so, please explain.

Yes. The PTK Excellence Scholarship can be stacked with Newberry College’s transfer merit scholarships, including the Trustees Scholarship and Founders Scholarship, which are awarded based on transfer GPA. Students may also qualify for additional federal and state financial aid programs, helping further reduce their cost of attendance. Our goal is to provide transfer students with a comprehensive financial aid package that makes earning a bachelor’s degree attainable.

What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?

Newberry College is committed to helping transfer students make a seamless transition. We offer dedicated transfer admissions counseling, personalized transcript evaluations, and transfer-specific webinars throughout the recruitment cycle. Students also participate in New Student Orientation, where they connect with faculty, staff, and fellow students before classes begin. Academic advising, career development services, tutoring resources, and student engagement opportunities help ensure transfer students feel connected and supported from their first day on campus through graduation.

In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?

One of the most impressive aspects of Newberry College is our commitment to personalized education. With small class sizes and a supportive campus community, students build meaningful relationships with professors and staff who genuinely invest in their success. Newberry combines the opportunities of a larger university—including Division II athletics, internships, leadership experiences, and undergraduate research—with the personal attention students often find at a small college.

Are there any special events or deadlines on your recruitment calendar that you would like to share?

Transfer students interested in enrolling at Newberry College for Fall 2026 should be aware of our July 1, 2026 transfer application deadline. Throughout the summer, Newberry hosts Transfer Connect webinars that allow prospective students to learn more about the transfer process, financial aid, academic programs, and student life. Students are also encouraged to attend New Student Orientation sessions to prepare for a successful transition to campus. Additional information and application details can be found on the Newberry College website.
