Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) is pleased to announce the appointment of José Fuentes to serve on its Board of Directors as Student Representative. In this role, he will represent the interests and perspectives of PTK’s more than 220,000 active members and help shape the strategic direction of the Society.

PTK’s Board of Directors is a constituent-based governing body composed of leaders who represent the diverse voices and stakeholders of the organization, including community college presidents, faculty, alumni, and students. As the sole student member of the Board, the Student Representative serves in one of the Society’s most important leadership and governance roles, ensuring that student perspectives directly inform organizational priorities, policies, and long-term strategy.

“The Student Representative plays an essential role in helping shape the future of Phi Theta Kappa,” said PTK President and CEO, Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “Because PTK’s Board is constituent-based, student voice is not symbolic, it is central to how we govern. José will help ensure that the experiences, aspirations, and needs of our members inform board discussions, strategic priorities, and decisions that impact students across our Society. We are excited to welcome his leadership and perspective to the table.”

A student at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas, José has distinguished himself through academic achievement, leadership, and service. He is a 2026 Guistwhite Scholar, member of the All-Texas Academic Team, and served as the 2025–2026 Texas Regional Officer, Vice President of District III. At Northeast Texas Community College, he serves as president of the Psi Beta Psychology Honor Society chapter and vice president of the Honors Student Council. He also founded Raíces y Alas, a student organization that celebrates Hispanic heritage and student belonging.

“Community college has given me opportunities that I didn’t even know existed,” José said. “I am honored to serve as the student voice on PTK’s Board of Directors and to help ensure students are heard as we shape the future of the organization. I want to help more students make the most of their community college experience through active engagement in PTK.”

José will begin his term on PTK’s Board of Directors immediately, serving as an advocate for members and contributing to conversations that advance student success, leadership development, transfer opportunity, and educational attainment.
