Tala Alahmar

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is proud to celebrate alumna and board member Tala Alahmar on her appointment as a Policy Fellow with the New Democrat Coalition, a coalition of 115 forward-thinking members of Congress focused on results-driven policy solutions.

In her new role, she will manage the Coalition’s portfolios in national security, including defense and foreign policy, immigration, and healthcare, working closely with congressional offices to support policy development and coordination across these issues. The fellowship is sponsored by the Progressive Policy Institute, a leading organization advancing modern, progressive public policy.

“This role allows me to work at the intersection of policy, collaboration, and public service,” Tala said. “I’m excited to support the Coalition’s work while helping advance thoughtful, results-oriented solutions.”

While enrolled in community college, Tala was elected to serve as International President, representing the organization’s more than 220,000 active members. During that time, she also served as the student representative to the PTK board. Since graduating from Oakland Community College, Tala completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan. She attended Georgetown University, where she earned a master’s degree in democracy and governance as a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholar.

As both a PTK alumna and a member of the PTK Board of Directors, Tala continues to represent the values of leadership, scholarship, and service that define PTK’s global network of high-achieving community college students and alumni.
