Accounting Specialist, Phi Theta Kappa

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Phi Theta Kappa is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Specialist to support the Financial Services Department in managing daily accounting operations. This role plays an essential part in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of financial transactions that contribute to the overall fiscal integrity of the organization.

As a key member of the Finance team, the Accounting Specialist will assist with journal entries, reconciliations, deposits, and regional accounting processes while maintaining strong communication and customer service across departments and stakeholders.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information to Regional Coordinators, including regional fee statements and monthly financial reports.
  • Process the regional accounting email and accounts payable as applicable.
  • Assist with all regional accounting functions and maintain organized records.
  • Prepare the daily deposit log.
  • Assist with monthly general ledger reconciliations.
  • Oversee regional and employee credit card reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Promote a customer-service mindset within the Financial Services team.
  • Perform other financial services duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, solve problems, and communicate findings clearly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field required, or two years equivalent combination of experience in basic accounting principles, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial recordkeeping with a High School diploma.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Outlook, Word, Excel, and the ability to grasp new software and programs quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Requires minimal supervision and is self-motivated.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, schedule and complete work assignments in a timely manner.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Noise: This work environment is an office-like setting with moderate noise.
  • Physical Exertion: The incumbent may frequently be required to lift approximately 10 pounds and/or occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision: The incumbent must possess close, midrange, distance and vision; as well as the ability to identify colors, judge distances, and adjust focus.
  • Speaking/Hearing: The incumbent must be able to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
  • Motor Coordination: The incumbent in this position is frequently required to: use their hands and reach with their hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to: stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend.
